SING INSIDE YOUR OWN CAR – DRIVE-IN MESSIAH SINGALONG:
Are you a Messiah fan? Do you hum the “Hallelujah Chorus” while walking the dog? You’d probably attend
a Singalong Messiah if it weren’t for COVID? Then you will love the opportunity to participate in the
“Drive-In Messiah Singalong” from the safety of your own car.
On Sunday, December 19 at 2 p.m., you’re invited to park at Comox Mall, turn on your car’s FM radio and
sing along! The Compass Community Radio Choir, led by Paul Colthorpe, will broadcast selected choruses
from Messiah, including “Hallelujah”.
Warm-up acts will include the Comox Valley Children’s Choir and the Quarantones. Emcee Jenn Forsland
will close the concert with a singalong of your favourite Christmas carols.
The “Drive-In Singalong Messiah” is the brainchild of producer Jean Sarrazin, who heard of a similar event
last winter in Massachusetts and decided to organize one for the Comox area with the help of Compass
Magazine. “We’ve obtained a short-term low-power FM license from Industry Canada,” he explained. “On
December 19, we’ll set up a temporary radio station at Comox Mall, mic up an electric piano and the choir
singers, and broadcast the mix to the cars parked at the mall. Everyone can drive in with family and
friends, watch Maestro Paul Colthorpe and sing along!”
Car & Driver tickets are $30 and can be purchased in Comox at Blue Heron Books and in Courtenay at
Benjamin Moore House of Colour, with a small rebate going back to the driver to encourage them to invite
fellow Messiah lovers to join them. Passengers will be asked to make a donation at the event (suggested
donation – $20) with proceeds going to support the Comox Valley Children’s Choir.
